A native of Killeen, Texas, Dr. Charles Edward Maze was born to the parentage of the late Richard T. and Osia O. Maze, on December 24, 1951. He accepted his call to preach the Gospel while serving in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Ord, California. He preached his inaugural sermon on April 2, 1972 at the Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church of Killeen, TX under the pastoral tutelage and leadership of the late Dr. R.A. Abercrombie.  He is married  to the former Charlotte A. Stonum and they are the parents of five children Reggie, Charles, Raymond, Keri and Jamal.

 Dr. Maze has been the Pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Temple, Texas since October 1978.  A little known fact is that currently Dr. Maze is the most tenured Pastor in Temple, TX. He currently serves as 2nd Vice Moderator of the St. John Regular Baptist District Association,  and is the Immediate Past President of the St. John District Congress of Christian Workers, Writer of Church School Literature for the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., Instructor in the National Baptist Congress of Christian Workers of NBCA, Inc. and Chairman of the Evangelical Board of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas. Fondly known as “Uncle Charlie” to young pastors around the country, he is considered one of the sages and his counsel is sought by young pastors and preachers. Pastor Maze is also the 1st VP of Temple Area CoEd Ministers Association. Dr. Maze attended Bishop College of Dallas, TX and has done further study at Christian Bible College and Seminary of Columbus, MO.

 In January 2003, Rev. Maze earned a Doctorate of Philosophy Degree in Theology from the Northfield University of London, England.  In May of 2003, Dr. Maze received a Doctorate of Evangelism Degree from the American International Bible Institute and Seminary of Killeen, TX.
